2023 Student Showcase!
After a few years’ hiatus, our Student Showcase is back!!!!
(We know it’s late notice, we apologize! We started organizing this in January but securing a space and other logistics did not happen quickly!)
This year’s showcase will be on Sunday, May 7 at 3pm at the Shoestring Theatre in Lake Helen – 380 S. Goodwin St. Lake Helen, FL. The Shoestring Theatre is a 140-seat theatre approximately 30 minutes outside of downtown Orlando and located right off I-4.
Performers must arrive by 2:30pm.
If you’d like to perform, please fill out the form at the bottom of the page no later than 11pm Saturday, April 29!
Eligibility
To be eligible to perform in the showcase, you must meet the following criteria:
- Your song must be appropriate for all audiences. If your song includes questionable material, speak with your coach on ways to edit the song or choose something different. Chances are you’ve been working on more than one song.
- You must be able to sing your song to a karaoke track – on pitch and on rhythm without any guide vocals.
- Your song must be memorized!
- You must take at least one lesson between April 30-May 7 as a final rehearsal before the showcase. If this is not possible, please contact us.
- Arrive by 2:30pm on the day of the showcase.
We want you to look and sound your best during this showcase and for it to be a positive experience for you!
That said, in the days leading up to the showcase, your coach may determine that it’s best for you to wait until the next showcase to perform. This is by no means a negative reflection on you or your talent, it just means we did not provide enough time for you to adequately prepare. The next showcase will come with more advanced notice!
FAQ
What should I wear?
Dressy-casual, and appropriate clothing! The background will be a black curtain, so it may be a good idea to wear something other than black!
Can I come if I’m not singing?
Of course! We’d love for you to meet and support other singers, and get an idea for what our showcases can be like so you know what to expect when you do perform! Text us at 407-289-8100 and we’ll reserve seats for you.
How much will tickets cost?
The Shoestring has graciously allowed us to use their theatre free of charge so that you and your family can enjoy the showcase without monetary constraints.
That said, we encourage a $5 per person donation to the theatre to thank them for this generous gesture. Of course, no amount is too small (or too large of course!) so donate however you feel inclined.
Will I be using a microphone?
No – the theatre is small, and voices carry well.
What’s the theater like?
Scroll to the bottom of the page for some photos, so you know what to expect from the size of the stage and audience!
Can I reserve seats?
No. Seating will be first-come, first-served. That said, the theatre only has about 14 rows, so there’s literally not a bad seat in the house. 🙂
Will there be live accompaniment?
Nope, you’ll be using whatever track you use during your lessons.
Will you be performing?
Let us know if you’ll perform and how many seats to save for you in the audience!
We need responses by 11pm Saturday, April 29 or you will not be able to perform.
